No Bible Study on July 4

Pastor Eric leads an exploration into the theological, historical, literary and social aspects of the Bible and then asks, “So what?” why and how does a Bible passage help shape, support and encourage our daily living. This summer, we are studying the Psalms.

BYOB- Bring Your Own Bible is a small group, informal discussion on bible passages and how the verses inform our beliefs, attitudes, and daily living. Most weeks, group members facilitate discussions, but occasionally Pastor Eric or Pastor Emily will lead discussion.

Sunday morning discussions seek to deepen our faith and create connections among members. We typically begin with a 15-20 minute video followed by discussion and personal responses.  Sessions are member-led and topics are selected by the participants.

The Adult Faith Renewal is a kind of adult confirmation. Whether you confirmed and may not remember everything from confirmation, may have been confirmed in a different tradition, were never confirmed or are looking for an intentional way to reconnect and deepen your faith- you are invited to join us for this monthly two-year Adult Faith Renewal small group.

Adult Faith Renewal mirrors our youth Confirmation program by inviting adults to deepen their understanding of Christian traditions and engage in the walk of faith. Gathered in sacred peer communities, adult participants build relationships with each other and with our ministry team as they consider where their own faith and life intersect. Member of the Adult Faith Renewal include the parents of current confirmation students.

This is a two-year class that meets once a month (24 times over 2 years) on the first Tuesday of the month. We begin with a meal together (with the 8th grade confirmatnds) from 6:30pm-7pm and then meet as a class from 7-8pm. On weeks we are not meeting, participants will be invited to watch videos, read essays, and join in online and in person discussions about the confirmation topic of the month.

Whereas our other adult ed offerings are drop-in welcome, Adult Confirmation is a 2 year commitment. Gathered in sacred peer communities, adult confirmation students build relationships within each other as they consider where their own faith and life intersect.

In light of the racial tensions in our country and our community, there is a growing need for us to begin having sacred and tough conversations about racism, white privilege, and white supremacy. Pastor Eric and Pastor Emily will facilitate but not teach. These conversations are an opportunity for us to share, learn, and change together. We will be using a variety of resources including curriculum by the United Church of Christ, various books, essays and documentaries.
