Facilities Ministry Update
Facilities members: Kerry Anderson, Ken Bredemeier, Dave Donnelly (chairman) Alan Merkle and Gary Riegler. Task force members include Paul Arthur, Jim Gesler, Randy Hallock, Dave Mahlebashian, Rob McCutcheon and Fritz von Heimburg.

Our primary responsibilities are the general maintenance, improvements and security of the building and grounds. This includes the heating and cooling systems as well as the utilities.

This has been another busy year for the Facilities Ministry and task forces connected with it. A lot of time and effort has gone into fixing up and beautifying our church both, inside and out.

One focus this year was the front steps. With the deterioration of the concrete on the front steps, the time came when they finally had to be replaced. Special thanks to Paul Arthur for all the time and effort he put in making designs, getting bids and permits and watching over the project.

Another item we spent a lot of time on was railings for the steps leading up to the Chancel. After much discussion and many designs, we were able to come up with a final design that will look nice, be sturdy and still also be removable if necessary. Special thanks go to Paul Arthur, Ken Bredemeier and Jim Gesler for all their work on this project.

Note that with under the watchful eye of Mike Ruhl, the front steps and the Chancel railings were paid through Memorial and Endowment funds and various donations. We’ll look into a way to recognize all the donors.

The next projects we want to focus on are:
(1) Installing window panes on the double green entrance doors by the elevator. This will allow people waiting to be picked up to wait inside and watch for their rides and to see if any one is outside, near the door before swinging them open.
(2) Bringing in a load of top soil to put around certain parts of the building to bank the soil higher and have the dirt slope away from the building and allow for better rain run off.
(3) Work with the Strategic Planning Committee to develop more long term plans and goals.

I hope to complete these three projects between now and Labor day.

Though this is said every year, it can’t be said enough. Thank you to the office staff, Lisa Solarz, Sue Olson and Chris Wakitsch for all the work they do for us and the support they give us. Also, thanks to Steve Rankins, our maintenance man. He not only keeps the church clean, he also takes care of many repairs.

Please let us now if you have any issues or suggestions or see any problems.
