| So You're a Mom! is now called . . . Mom's TimeOut! -- This group is open to all who "mother" children and who look forward to some "adult talk". Mom's meet for a dinner out somewhere in the community, usually the fourth Thursday of each month. All moms and friends are invited. | First Forum . . . The summer session begins Sunday, June 15, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Library. Coffee and snacks provided. Child-care offered upon advanced request. June 22 . . . "Cultivating Happiness", led by Dr. Sue Coe. She will define what true clinical depression actually is and express some methods to help. She will also discuss innovative, mind-body energy ways for people to work toward feeling better. Sue has a Masters in Social Work from Boston University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Chicago, over 30 years of mental health work with children, teens, adults, couples and families and owner of a private practice - C & H Counseling Solutions her in Crystal Lake. June 29 . . . Discussion on Parkinson's Disease, led by Marie Ann Vos. Marie Ann will talk about the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Parkinson's Disease". She will tell us what she has learned from reading this book, what advice she has taken from it, as well as her own techniques that she has incorporated into her life to help her handle this disease. July 6 . . . No Forum Today July 13 . . . Family Alliance, Inc., has been providing our northern Illinois community with valuable elder care and special health needs for the past 25 years. Join us as Carol Louise, from Family Alliance, provides us some valuable insight to this organization and its many services, such as, senior counseling & therapy, adult day care, family support, care management and educational opportunities. July 20 . . . "A Sacred Conversation on Race," led by Rev. Dave Inglis. Rev. Dave will lead this First Forum following up on his sermon of May 18. "White Privilege" is the flip-side of discrimination. Dave will discuss how race has a powerful impact on our ability to thrive in our culture. Come share your stories and listen to the stories of others. July 27 . . . "Why is Communication So Hard?", is our today's topic led by Dr. Mark Vogel of Personal Growth Associates. Dr. Vogel will touch on gender differences in communication; mistakes people make that hinder communication; the concept of "separate realities", and things that people can do to avoid the common pitfalls of communication. Dr. Vogel has a Psy.D. degree in clinical psychology and 28 years experience in the mental health field working with adolescents and adults with a number of issues, including depression, anxiety, grief, relationship problems and parenting. August 3 . . .The Challenge of Forgiveness: Forget-Hardly! Forgive-Maybe! Discussion will be led by Rev. Arn Schaper. While we might agree that forgiveness is basic to our Christian faith, it's something else when it comes to putting it into practice. Forgiveness has a direct relationship to emotional and spiritual health. Come join us as we explore some Biblical references, psychological techniquest for management and give practical situations. August 10 . . . Appalachia Service Project, discussion led by Lloyd Mueller and Sandy Ehlert. A group of FCC adults have been traveling to Appalachia for the past three years to help residents there with home rehab and repair. Please join us to hear about what the group does, what they learn and what they carry with them. This year's trip is October 4-11. August 17 . . . An Overview of the Dalai Lama's Visit, led by Rev. Budd Friend-Jones. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama visited Madison Wisconsin, this summer to offer teachings in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and to receive the Tensug or "long life ceremony" bestowed upon him by the North American Tibetan community. Nine members from our congregation attended: Rev. Budd, Geri Brennan, Sandy & Mark Ehlert, Heidi Fitzpatrick, Kathryn Gooding, John Malone, and John & Jonel Near. Some of them will be sharing their experiences of that week. The Dalai Lama is an internationally acclaimed individual whose lifetime mission is to make this world better through the practice of religious harmony, kindness and compassion.
